Cherliz Cohen, MHC-LP
As a North African, lesbian woman, I know firsthand the power of feeling understood and accepted. My goal as a therapist is to create a compassionate, affirming space where you can show up as your authentic self — without fear of judgment. Together, we’ll explore your experiences, build resilience, and foster personal growth. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and tailored to meet your unique needs. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy, Feminist Therapy, and Culturally Sensitive practices to offer personalized care. I have additional training and certifications in working with LGB and Trans/GNC individuals, allowing me to provide affirming support to those navigating identity, relationships, and mental health.
I have experience helping clients work through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma surrounding sexual/domestic violence, and interpersonal struggles. Whether we’re building coping skills, exploring emotions, or reframing unhelpful patterns, I strive to empower you while honoring your lived experience.
THERAPIST
Aside from my clinical work, I also train with the Institute for Family Forensic Psychology, where I support children and families navigating divorce, co-parenting challenges, and other family reorganizations. IFFP’s mission centers on helping parents manage conflict responsibly, offering therapeutic services, and providing evaluative and educational programs such as the PEACE Program and divorce mediation. This work allows me to approach family-based stressors with a trauma-informed, developmentally grounded lens.
I’m fluent in English and Hebrew and earned my Master’s in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness, along with an advanced certificate in LGBTQ+ Health, Education, and Social Services, from New York University. I have begun my doctoral studies as part of my commitment to growing both my clinical work and my advocacy. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all — and healing isn’t linear. My role is to walk alongside you, honoring your story and empowering you to create meaningful change. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey.
